Murphy to edge Owen live on Eurosport

At the Coronet Theatre in Elephant & Castle, Southwark, a Southern area lightweight scrap headlines a bill screened live on Eurosport as champion Ben Murphy (7-4-1, 3 KO's) faces the unbeaten Tony Owen (12-0, 1 KO).

Unbeaten Owen challenges the champ
I'm not going to do a huge write up for this fight, just a short little summary of what I think is going to happen. It's a tough fight for Murphy on paper as he's been out of the ring for just over a year, since losing to Choi in the Prizefighter, a fight he done pretty well in. He's a really tough guy and looked good in winning this title in January last year, outpointing Lee Cook over 10 and that shows he's got the stamina for this kind of fight. What could give him the edge here is that he's mixed at a higher level and has a win over now British super featherweight champion Gary Buckland, who he beat by a point in June 2008.

Owen is unbeaten, but he's only beaten solid journeymen, guys that will have taught him how to handle himself, however not tested him from a Boxing point of view. He won the International Masters 140lbs title last time out, proving he can do the 10 round distance, but the pace with Murphy will be a lot harder and I think it's where he could struggle. With the Brighton man being out of the ring for so long many people will fancy the unbeaten Owen, but I just think Murphy will outclass him in the stretch after some close early rounds.
